Zalabí is delighted to announce that we have been awarded Gold — Best Young Company Committed to Sustainability and Bronze — Best Sustainable Raw Material (for our Spanish Red Thyme essential oil, Thymus zygis) at the VPC Green Beauty Awards 2025.
These awards recognise a practical, operational model built around six priority pillars — energy, water, emissions, environment & biodiversity, social commitment, and waste management — with concrete achievements already implemented.
What sets Zalabí apart
- Energy autonomy: our distillery (El Perro) is fully powered by on-site solar energy; irrigation and process systems are solar-powered.
- Water circularity: solar-driven drip irrigation, rainwater capture and recirculation, and progressive integration of hydrosol as process water and phytosanitary input.
- Low emissions: steam produced with pre-treated biomass and fitted with a high-efficiency particulate filter; process electricity emissions have been eliminated.
- Waste-as-resource: post-distillation biomass is used for energy or mulch; hydrosol is reused and partially commercialised.
- People-centred: formal employment with above-convention wages, performance bonuses, audited temporary staffing and UEBT verification of our main farm.
- Traceability & standards: our Red Thyme oil is EU Organic and COSMOS certified (via CAAE), plus Halal, Kosher and Food & Feed grades — fully traceable from field to drum.
Why it matters
Gold for Best Young Company demonstrates that sustainability can be embedded at the core of a growing business. Bronze for our Red Thyme recognises a traditionally known raw material produced today with the highest standards of quality, transparency and ethical sourcing.
“These awards confirm that responsible production delivers real returns — to product quality, to people, and to the landscapes and communities we work with.”
— Ramón Fernández, Managing Director, Zalabí
