Best Sustainability Initiative in Perfumery
At Zalabí, we craft essential oils from native Mediterranean plants, building a regenerative and sustainable model for the perfumery industry. Our initiative focuses on creating a zero-waste, low-emission and socially rooted system for natural ingredient production.
“Our fully solar-powered automated distillery is designed for efficiency and environmental impact. By upcycling production residues into essential oils, hydrosols, and bioenergy, we reduce emissions and close the loop through a truly circular process”. — José Antonio Velázquez, Production Manager, Zalabí
Our commitment goes beyond our production process. We are proud member of the Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT), a globally recognized organization that sets good practices for how companies and their suppliers source ingredients from biodiversity.
Best Natural Ingredient in Perfumery
Zalabí’s award-winning Red Thyme Essential Oil (Thymus zygis) combines true natural origin, biodiversity value, and full traceability from field to fragrance.
Cultivated in the Zalabí Valley at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, this native Mediterranean plant thrives in its natural habitat with minimal water and without synthetic inputs. Irrigation relies on water sourced from a local reservoir replenished by snowmelt and rainfall. The soil is enriched with our own plant biomass, enhancing fertility, retaining moisture, and suppressing weeds. This is a climate-friendly crop that helps sequester carbon and attracts pollinators.
All cultivation and processing are certified Organic (EU)—covering not just the fields, but the distillation of the essential oil itself—and COSMOS (via CAAE). The ingredient is also certified Halal, Kosher, and Food & Feed grade. Plus, our main Red Thyme farm is UEBT Verified, ensuring ethical sourcing, biodiversity protection, and social responsibility.
“We don’t just produce essential oils, we deliver purity and transparency. Each of our products undergoes the strictest quality controls at every stage, with full traceability from seed to customer.” — Patricia Salsas, Sales Manager
Zalabí’s native oils are carefully selected to celebrate Spain’s cultural heritage. Each oil tells a story of origin, purity, and sustainability—reflecting the company’s dedication to transparency, regenerative agriculture, and community-driven practices.
Thank you to the Beauty Cluster and the entire judging panel for this recognition and thank you to everyone who supports our vision.
